Benitez threatens action

Player arrested

Fancy Craig Bellamy being involved in a fracas, this time he's meant to have battered Riise during a boozy golf holiday....Us folk on ToffeeWeb are wondering if Beneathus is going to inform us all whether Bellamy used a big club or a small club?

BBC SPORT | Football | FA Cup | Bolton 1-3 Arsenal (aet)

Tremendous game tonight...not a big fan of Bolton but was actually glad when they scored as it ensured an extra 30 minutes of the game. Both teams didn't hold back at all. Fair result in the end given the penalty misses and the stunning open goal spurned by Arsenal. Good stuff.

Noticed some balloon of a Bolton fan had a Union flag with Bolton written on it...only problem being the flag was upside down. I mean come on! At least get your country's flag the right way up!

Oh I've never felt more like singing the blues

Until last week any glee in them across the park meeting defeat would have been open to accusations of petty jealousy however after that pendejo’s petty sniping it seems to have a more tangible, noble edge to it. Karma Mr Benitez! Payback’s a bitch.

Knowing Scouse footy fans as I do I’m pretty sure Evertonians are going to have those ‘small club’ jibes rubbed in their faces for a while to come…even if their new owners have christened them a franchise called Liverpool Reds (Red Devils if new phantom signing Mascherano is to be believed). Everton, having the temerity to take 4 points off our more illustrious neighbours, were branded a small club and so the title Beneathus is no longer anything to do with league positions.

So as news of the RojoMierda's result filtered through we trooped out of Goodison singing the blues (as in “Oh I’ve never felt more like singing the blues. When Everton win and Liverpool lose”)…our lads had done their usual trick of somehow contriving to make an easy victory nail-bitingly difficult. We’d bossed the first half with AJ opening the scoring and should have been 3 goals to the good. Brad Friedel had kept them in the game. The second half saw us revert to type and sit further and further back although ultimately, despite pressure a-plenty, we were good value for our win. The back four of Neville, Yobo, Stubbs and Lescott had soaked up everything they threw at us. The main grumble was how leggy we looked. There seemed to be a lot of tired legs out there. Blackburn are a dirty, physical side but for once we lived with them and gave as good as we got. Well done blues. Lescott was our man of the match again but Arteta ran him close. He is a superb, superb footballer…I desperately hope all this transfer talk is unfounded. I’ll understand if he does go and I’ll always look out for him, he should be playing for Spain…it’s not his fault that the media don’t focus on ‘small clubs’ like Everton…indeed the BBC et al have been chuckling away since the pendejo’s whinging not realising that he is just cementing the top four cartel they are always decrying.

Honourable mentions go to AJ, who ran himself into the ground as usual, Stubbs, who seems to have his swansong set to repeat and Fernandes, who came into the team and looked fairly lively and skilful.

BBC Match Report

The game was also notable for a lad we may well have met whilst travelling in Malaysia turning up at half time. He was brought out onto the pitch at half time and just missed out on a £10,000 prize from Barclays. We are assuming there aren’t too many other Everton fans in Portsmouth called Sau Lam! Unlucky mate.

Our Country's Good

Our Country's Good | Theatre story | Guardian Unlimited Arts

BBC Liverpool - Our Country's Good

Saw a superbly ambitious play at the Playhouse on Friday. Our Country's Good set in the newly established penal colony in 1789 New South Wales. A bunch of convicts are being encouraged to put on a play by an earnest lieutenant with the blessing of the new governor (and the chagrin of the more disciplinarian officers). The stalls at The Playhouse have been gutted to raise the audience onto one big performance area. Some of the scenes you really did feel part of the action. Highly recommended, it’s a top play and it has a really great cast.

Our Country’s Good @ Playhouse Theatre

Echo Interview

Speaking of penal colonies (Do you see what I did there) the English are at last putting up a fight down under. Having forced an Australian collapse in the first innings of the first final of the triangular series our downtrodden no-hopers found themselves 15-3 at the start of their reply. Cue a tremendous fight by Bell, Collingwood and Flintoff and a nail biting win for England (4 wickets and 4 balls to spare). Unbelievable knock by Collingwood to complement his two run-outs and a catch whilst fielding. Brilliant to see the spirit back in the side….as I said last week about the rugby boys one swallow doesn’t make a summer but it’s nice to see.

Ingerland

When will I learn?

Can the FA reimburse me two hours of my life please.

You've got to conclude it's just a get together with their mates nowadays. There is just no hunger, no pride, no desire, no togetherness.

Think of the players of yesterday and how much it meant to them?

Gone but not forgotten

It's always wheeled out that England don't do friendlies and that we are a "big game" team but if you can't perform in the warm up games then when push comes to shove and it's time to get a result then there's no continuity to base your performance on.

There is no momentum 'cause there is no desire in these minor games. They honestly don't look like they know how to get it going nowadays.

You have players with bags of talent but a totally disfunctional team ethic...then you look at a player like Peter Crouch

I have a theory that Crouch has absolutely no natural talent whatsoever however 'cause of his freakish tallness sucessive managers have given him the chance to dedicate his life to playing and practicing footy every day of his life with top level coaching at his disposal.

If the answer to this question comes out against the gangly galoot then people up and down the land can think "I could have played for England given the chance". It essentially makes Crouch the Jade Goody of football.

Sing songs

Whilst I'm not one to indulge in generic hateful abuse of the Munich/Heysel sort I had to laugh at the Evertonian's Stevie Gerrard paternity songs.

Apparently it's all over Liverpool that his girlfriend, Alex Curran has been getting rattled by a local drug dealer called Pancake.

I've no idea if it's true but the bluenoses were all singing :

"What's that coming over your bird? Is it a gangster? Is it a gangster" (to the tune of Monster by The Automatic).

He was big and tough enough to ear the Lower Bullens a few years ago so he'll just have to take it (Along with all the "The baby's not yours" songs.

I remember hearing about something similar when Tommy Docherty was United manager and was found to be sleeping with club physio Laurie Brown's wife. The liverpool fans were all singing "Who's up Mary Brown" to them.

Everton hit back at Benitez jibe

Everton hit back at Benitez jibe

Well done Everton for calling them out on it...Nice to see them lot showing thier true colours on a national stage.

Stubbs is characteristically languid in his reaction

This season we’ve beaten them 3-0 and got a draw here

Personally I think we should treat the comments in a sensible, measured way by driving Keith Wyness to Anfield wearing a bobble hat in order to shout "How would you like to suck my balls Mr Benitez!" through a megaphone.

That'd just about cover it I think.

Go Jonny go go go

Comeback at last

Wonderful to see Wilkinson back and firing after all his trials and tribulations. He bagged a full-house (although the try was a bit dodgy). Robinson, Ellis, Farrell, Tindall and the forwards did well too.

All in all a good first game for Ashton. One swallow doesn't make a summer but it's good to be going in the right direction.

Derby day moaning from the rednoses

And so we finish the derbies with 2 clean sheets and 4 points. Not too bad.

BBC Match Report

The reaction from the rednoses has been gratifyingly petulant. Classles no-marks, can't wait to see Bascombe's column. A point is neither here nor there really but the whining makes it tonnes better...No doubt they'll apply for dispensation to the FA and get the game replayed.

Benitez pitched in with some petty jibes after the game

Spaniard talks nonsense

IOL: Benitez aims 'small team' jibe at Everton

Well in to our Irish pals to calling him to account and to Moyes for rebutting the nonsense. Who was trying to win at Goodison when he rested some of his best players? He fits right in over their the arrogant, fat, shit Spanish prick. It no longer matters where you are in the league. From now on you'll always be Benathus.

Replacing one myth with another

Hmmm?

Well then, the friendly derby is a thing of the past, fair enough but just making it out to be 'cause Everton fans are jealous and resentful over Heysel is pretty over simplistic.

For me what really poisoned it was when in May 94 we were heading into the game that could have seen us relegated. They were like pigs in shit over it. Crowing and gloating. Parties planned, coffins draped in Everton flags at the ready (or at least they told us they had these things plannned). On the day of the game cars were screeching to a halt and abuse was being hurled at anyone wearing a blue scarf. I remember thinking that they'd obviously been waiting a long time for this and now they were showing their true colours.

The low level of smug crowing that Evertonians had always endured at the hands of our more illustrious neighbours was ratcheted up but after that it was never just friendly banter. I don't despise Liverpool Football Club...I merely loathe their smug, deluded, arrogant fans and the myths they self-perpetuate that they are somehow a cut above everyone else.

Anyway today is derby day...I am fearful of a pasting.

A day down in the heartland

Ah, the south…where us northerners like to go for a good old moan…and with just cause too. It seemed like we were barely south of Catthorpe when beer suddenly became £3 a pint, huge BMW off-roaders were driving 3 millimetres from our bumper and some bilious old hag called Jane from the Bede Close branch of the Higham Ferrers Self-appointed Landscape-gardening Authorities was ranting and berating us for parking our car on the side of the road…perhaps we’d caught the place on a bad day.

You see the reason we were down here was that this was rugby country. Yes, an actual place where people are rugby fans and walk around wearing rugby tops and everything. Franklins Gardens was just to the south and we’d driven past a place called Welford so presumably Welford Road could not be far away. Yep, Everton’s tame exit from the FA Cup spelt, for us, one thing…Beer & Rugby.

Saints and Tigers would have to do without us for today, however, ‘cause we were headed to Goldington Road for Bedford V Waterloo. This would be an interesting one as it was my first ever Waterloo away game. Visitors to Blundellsands all seem to love it ‘cause it’s a “proper old fashioned rugby club”. Small, friendly little ground, lovely old clubhouse with it’s internationals board and hallowed war memorials, all the old memorabilia along with an open fire and as much real ale as you could ever want.

How would a visit to a fairly big club in rugby’s heartland stack up? Well in truth it stacked up fairly well. For a start there was people there…not millions of them but certainly about 2,000 compared to little Waterloo pulling in 750 - 1,000 on a good day. This didn’t mean that it had that faceless footy ground feeling, a nice clubhouse beckoned and the fans still mill round & mix sociably on the sidelines and the pitch, though oddly sloping was better than you’d see in many Premiership grounds (Guinness & Barclays)…Yep, Bedford is a lovely place to watch a game of rugby.

The home fans seemed a good bunch, we ensconced ourselves in with a couple of group of blues and chatted, drank and enjoyed the game together. It was all very welcoming. Indeed the one loudmouth who spent the game jeering the opposition, shouting at us to get back up the M6 and making lazy, lame “robbing Scouser” jokes about our Scottish number 8 (“Get a haircut you car thief” * pause for laughter *) seemed to be irritating home and away fan in equal amounts. So basically a case of a proper National Division One team being bigger but just as good.

Now onto the game…In that department teams like Bedford are certainly bigger but “just as good” would be a massive understatement. People talk about the gap between the Nationals and the Premiership but for a group of part-timers stepping up against teams like Bedford, Exeter, Pirates, Rotherham etc is just as big-a chasm.

We were gratified to find that the Blues hadn’t snuck any highly rated internationals into their side as they’d done with Tom Varndell back in October. Even so there was only ever going to be one winner. The Blues forced themselves into possession for most of first 40 minutes and Waterloo, it has to be said, defended tremendously. Time and time again the Blues went into contact hard through the middle, recycled professionally and worked it out wide to the quick lads. It sounds patronising but the fact that at half time the score was kept to 13-3 really was a credit to the Merseysiders but inevitably you can’t hold them off for a full 80 minutes. Almost from the off in the second half the gaps began to appear and the Blues class, professionalism and fitness told…it was only when Bedford had their bonus point safely tucked away that Waterloo had a real sustained spell of pressure. The locals were pretty unanimous in praising & applauding the visitors efforts (aside from our loudmouth friend who smugly urged the part-timers to kick for goal in order to double our score) but ultimately we all agreed that on FA Cup forth round day there was never, ever going to be a shock on the cards.

In fairness to our boys this isn’t the sort of game we are targeting but you have to concede that Waterloo will almost certainly go down now. Moseley, our fellow National Division 2 promotion buddies, are making a slightly better fist of it and may stay up but it’s been ultra-tough for both teams. The demands of stepping up into a full-time game and the standards it requires are merciless…Neither Mose or ‘loo are bad sides. They walked to promotion last season and their nearest rivals that year, Esher are strolling the division in their absence.

Fairytales do happen…a post match glance at Bristol scraping a victory against Saints proves that but you get the feeling that for a small, traditional amateur club mixing it with the professionals is going to get tougher and tougher.

It’s not nearly as scary as facing the Bede Close branch of the Higham Ferrers Self-appointed Landscape-gardening Authorities though.

"Stuart Pearce was talking to a player recently when he posed what was intended as a rhetorical question. “I said: ‘What would you rather have, a Ferrari or an England cap.’ And they said: ‘Well definitely a Ferrari because they’re fantastic, aren’t they?” the Manchester City manager recalled with horror, shaking his head at the incredulity of it all."

3 points at a cost

So Andy Johnson gets injured the week before the derby. Pretty high price for 3 points. It ort of defines our season. Think back to what's happened since going top of the league against them-across-the-park (as seen above). A few dismal perfmances, lots of awful decisions, games we should have won and inconvenient injuries.

Still, a disspointing season sees us with 35 points at the end of January. Moyes talked about raising expectations when he came to Everton. Maybe my grumbling is testament to that. Still...........

Johnson should have had eight penalties, Hackett concedes | News | Guardian Unlimited Football:

"Keith Hackett says Everton's England striker Andrew Johnson may have been harshly treated in being denied several penalties by referees in recent weeks. The admission followed extensive talks with Everton's manager, David Moyes.

Johnson has endured incessant claims this season that he dives, a legacy of similar criticisms during his time with Crystal Palace, and Everton believe that reputation now precedes him. Their disquiet prompted the discussions with Hackett, and the head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board studied video evidence - supplied by the club - of 10 appeals before conceding that the striker seemed unfortunate in eight of them.

'It seems that with Andrew Johnson's pace and ability to go across defenders he has not been getting some of the penalties and free-kicks that he was due,' Hackett said yesterday. 'I want our referees to go on to the pitch with a blank slate and no preconceived ideas. Maybe it's been down to poor positioning or a lack of help from the assistant referees.'"

Thank you Mr Hackett.

Alan Green, the BBC’s resident racist does it again. Tired of picking on Sir Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce, Liverpool’s favourite hack has another go at Everton

Nice to see someone feels the same as us about the odious toad.

I'd say this was long overdue :

Moyes meets with refs

They say these things balance themselves up but we've had some terrible decisions go against us this season.

Decision can go against you but in some sports you expect the player to do the honourable thing :

BBC SPORT | Cricket | England | Hussey profits from slice of luck

"'I don't walk, there's no question about it. I've been given out a few times when I haven't been out.

'If I do happen to get out and umpire doesn't give me, that's just the way the game goes,' Hussey commented."

Cheating Aussie get.

If he'd have walked England might have had a decent chance of winning that. The batting failed miserably but the bowling/fielding held the Aussies pinned for ages. They really had to work for that one. Perhaps the've been stung into recovery. We can only hope.

Celebrated Dylan photo recreated & the weekend sport

Celebrated Dylan photo recreated

This was a nice story...especially 'cause the photo was taken on the day of the 1966 FA Cup final when Everton came from two goals down to beat Sheffield Wednesday (and Eddie Kavanagh became the first football hooligan).

Interesting to think of all those people in Liverpool glued to their radios whilst Bob Dylan himself was strolling round the city and posing for photographs with their kids.

Good story about some mischief by some Villa fans :

BBC NEWS | Wales | South East Wales | Fans to fly high after match ban

One the face of it it should have been a bad weekend sportwise but our mate Rufus was up from London so we were always going to have fun. First up Waterloo put in an immensely creditable performance against high-flying Earth Titans (When you are playing a team claiming to represent the whole God-damn planet you know you are up against it). They looked very business-like and there was probably only ever going to be one winner but it was only when one of players was sin-binned that they punished us...Amazing as it sounds if Waterloo play like that between now and the end of the season they'll stay up. We had our usual gang at the game plus Rufus and a good time was had by all. We really should get membership next season. I also managed to get my hands on the rather fetching new white 'loo kit.

Going down fighting

Nice one AJ

Sunday saw us trip down to Goodison for a pretty dour game against Reading. The Royals are a fine club with a good manager, you've got to have a lot of respect for them. They nicked a goal largely through our own ineptitude. Everton rallied well in the second half and we equalised...It would have been ace if we could have snatched it at the death but me, Anne, Rufus and Sylvester Stallone all enjoyed the match.

I'm an Everton fan now

From there we had something to eat nipped to Lime St and had a quick pint with our guest whilst watching a fantastic game of footy. Spurs V Newcastle was superb, two of my least favourite clubs went at it hammer and tongs. Brilliant goal by Martins. Net result Everton are 7th....somehow. And pompous old Alan Green got annoyed but then his employers had to apologise for the fat wretch.

4-9 over 180 minutes. Arsenal claim the kop

3-6 and a penalty missed

Wow...didn't expect that. Evertonians have had fun today. Pathetic I know but after years of being on the recieving end it's nice to send a bit back the other way. Best one so far :

Q: What time did liverpool kick off last night

A: Every 15 minutes

The Guardian have been less than impressed with liverpool's look at us, we're the best fans in the world campaign :

Guardian Unlimited: Sport blog: Fans get the team they deserve

Whatever way you look at it that's a spanking...They charged premium rate for the game then put out a 2nd string team. Now fair enough if the manager wants to rest players but should you charge the top rate?

Meanwhile Bascombe's delusions stretch to claiming that liverpool's spending is out-stripped by Arsenal's big money academy

What a loon

In other news Sylvester Stallone is going to be at Goodison Park for the Everton V Reading game at the weekend...how odd.

icLiverpool - Waterloo axe falls on coach Melrose

Shame but maybe a change will be as good as a rest. Dave Blythe has taken over so hopefully they can nick a win or two and get back in touch for the run-in. It'll be a proper miracle if they survive though. Come on 'loo!!!!!

Yesterday we went to see Everton V Blackburn in the cup...utterly wretched way to spend an afternoon. We got bullied and battered and never got going until it was too later. Net result 1-4 at home. Shocking. I'd never walk out on them but it was pretty tempting.

The day before Arsenal had beat liverpool 3-1. Anfield started with a protest against that vile Kelvin MacKenzie and The Sun. Scousers should never buy that filthy rag.

After that their "Aren't we great" campaign started...It must be grim there trying to watch the game surrounded by all those show-offs. 10 minutes to go with the game at 1-3 they get a corner in front of the kop...all of a sudden some loon starts waving a massive flag just behind the goal 'cause they know the cameras will be on them. Must have been annoying for the 200 people behind him who can now see nothing of the goalmouth.

Some catching up

Everton must be going into the new year not knowing whether to be positive or not...The Newcastle game was pretty good. A game that Everton largely controlled and instead of being held at bay or scoring but being pegged back almost imediately we managed to nick a scrappy goal and then consolidate.

After Anichebe had dribbled his opener in we actually looked more confident but a head-to-head the edge of their area lead to us losing concentration and conceding a penalty. Emre sparked off a melee from nowhere, not sure how (rumours abound about spitting or racist abuse) and the ensueing delay didn't help Martins in his preperation for his penalty. It's fair to say it's the worst penalty I've ever seen live...it's possibly the worst pen since Diana Ross in the 94 world cup opening ceremony.

So 1-0 to us at half time...after the break we pressed on and scored from a corner and after Phil Neville had scuffed in his first goal for the club (own goals excluded) we were actually comfortable as the final whistle approached...a very unusual feeling for us it has to be said.

On new year's day City beat us 2-1 (with anothe Johnson penalty claim ignored) so our christmas run was WXWL. Not too bad but the extra point from the City game would have made it look tonnes better.

Not sure which was we'll go...Hibbert and Cahill are coming back but rumours abound at Super Joleon Lescott has attracted interest from Real Madrid. This would be an awful loss for the team. He has been immense since joining. I'd rate him amongst Moyesies best buys.

The weekend see us take on Blackburn in the cup...bad time to play them methinks.

The Cricket capitulation ended last night...a crippling disappointment. Really annoyed about it. You can't really defend the players, their attitude just seemed wrong. Going home for a week instead of fitting in another game. Declining to play warm-up games, bringing their families over and doing their own thing, sticking with the 2005 team no matter how out of form they were.

5-0 leaves the Aussies like pigs in shit gloating away at us.

Still at least we won't hear the phrase "Australia just played some great cricket" again for a while...oh wait there's still the one dayers and we are rubbish at that.

Cultural imperialist redshite

not sure if this is a wind-up or not :

RECLAIM THE KOP - STARTS HERE TODAY:

"On what is a milestone day for the world-famous city of Liverpool, the football club that carries its name is delighted to launch an innovative and educational series that no Liverpudlian dare miss."

This is their official site...Words fail me how pompous liverpool football club can be at times.

It's ace the way they are trying to impose a pre-set uniqueness on everyone.

"Yes, we're all individuals"

Apart from insecure, pretentious, legislated uniqueness from those self righteous no-marks across the park sport is vital in this country

If it wasn't for sport then there would be nothing apart from show about nobodies in various situations or celebrities doing unexpected jobs. Celebrity Dance Idol, Celebrity Singing, Celebrity Horse Riding, Celebrity Haircut Salon, Celebrity Farm, Celebrity Soccer Challenge, Celebrities Sitting in a house for 6 weeks, Celebrities Sitting in a house for 6 weeks, Celebrity Sitting on an island spa for 6 weeks, Celebrity Coal-mining Academy, Celebrity Coastguard Idol conversely you've got obscure nobodies desperately trying to achieve this mythical celebrity status....I despair. What wrong with shows about people who are actually good at the jobs they've chosen and trained for?

If everyone stopped for half a minute and thought about the ridiculousness of these shows then they'd die off overnight.

Ah Christmas

It may be a cliche (and could possibly do with 20 minutes cutting out of it) but this is the best Christmas film there'll ever be.

Merry Christmas. Happy Nativity. God Bless.

Went to the football yesterday...bit of a dour affair but this Johnson penalty drought is getting stupid now. What does he have to do? It looked like Anichebe should have had one too (although I'be not seen a replay yet). Other than that it was pretty poor fare...we just lumped the ball into the middle time and time again and they never looked troubled. Woodgate and Pogatetz were both immense and, basically, we lacked the nouse to get past them.

The story of the game in one handy picture.

The cricket is proceding tamely towards another Australia win but not helped by our bowling plan going missing from the dressing room and being delivered immediately to the Aussie media to crow over.

Oooh look

Chelsea

BBC SPORT | Football | Premiership | Wigan 2-3 Chelsea

Well they just keep doing it don't they? This was another example of the big players stepping up when required.

In fairness they should have been out of site by half time but a goal by Wigan with the last touch of the first half gave the Latics hope and in the 2nd half they equalised. Again they got back into the game and stole all three points from under the oppositions nose. Even Mourinho admitted it was three points they didn't really deserve. The sign of the great side I suppose. Whatever it makes the loss at Goodison last week a little easier to take.

Reading 0-2 Everton paling into insignificance

BBC SPORT | Football | Premiership | Reading 0-2 Everton

Get in...that's a top result that. We are a good side this season but if we'd have not got three points there it could have set a worrying tone for us going into the new year.

More importantly it means that AJ has broken is drought. 12 games was a long stretch but anyone who's been watching us knows that his overall contribution has been high. Getting amongst the goals is very important though. Arteta has had a couple of injury worries but it continuing to play well...it's great the wat he's stepped up and took responsibilty in the absence of Cahill.

Joy at Everton's win was tempered with the news that Dancing Dave Christian finally lost his fight against cancer. Dave was a rednose who went on the ToffeeWeb forum. Frequently an agent provocateur he'd mock Everton and Evertonians mercilessly occasionally crossing over the line but ultimately remaining a chap you always had tremendous affection for. The reaction on the forum was one of immediate sorrow stopping any talk of Everton's win in it's tracks and provoking an immense amount of tributes.

I bring this up as my tribute to the man...the fact that the sad news cut off all thought of our team and lead blues to post "You'll Never Walk Alone" and be truly glad that that lot across the park had won is the best way I can think of to outline what a great guy he was.

God bless you Dave, I still owe you a pint.

Christmas shopping

Done...as in 100% complete.

I've just got a the last few bits I'd hoped to get. I now need nothing else in the run up to Christmas aside from a crate or two of Cains Lager or Cains Liverpool Lager.

Chuffed!

Bring on the "Away in a Manger", "Ding Dong Merrily" and maybe even "The First Noel"!

I am also ahead of the game with my new years resolution of not using any plastic bags from now on having got some decent quality shopping bags. I know this makes me a bit of a hippy queg but *shrugs*

Anyway, with thanks to Nate, have a very merry Christmas :

AJ again

BBC SPORT | Football | Premiership | Johnson insists he is not a diver

Good on Everton for pressing this point. Johnson get's goal-side and defenders start pulling him all over the place. Fair enough he goes down easy but he's getting fouled plain and simple.

A chap on ToffeeWeb made an interesting point...he reckons the instant furore over the Johnson thing was orchestrated by Chelsea to get onto the back of the ref. It makes sense...it was an honest tumble. The defender is behind Johnson shoving him whilst the goal-keeper is flying at his legs...and all of a sudden Mourinho is going mental. They were waiting for Johnson to go to ground so they could all cry foul and get the officials under pressure. Sneaky gets.

gutted

Everton were superb at the weekend...they deserved so much more. Tonnes of pride and work-rate and not completely lacking in skill. Twice we were in the lead against Chelsea and in the end they had to pull something truly special out of the locker to get the better of us.

It was so gutting when Drogba's shot hit the net.

The fans were singing and applauding at the end, the players deserved nothing less. Goodison was rocking when Yobo put us into the lead...a reminder why the place is so special. Mourinho spat his dummy out of the pram over a penalty shout from AJ. It looked pretty valid to me

Moyes put him firmly in his place by mentioning the fuss when an opposition didn't jump over a Chelsea keeper.

Waterloo held a fairly decent lead at half time at the weekend but let it slip...you get the feeling it'll take a miracle now.

England handed the ashes back to the Aussies in the shortest possible time...this really is depressing.

*sigh*

It's Ground-move day!

Another ground move announcement :

BBC NEWS | England | Merseyside | Everton confirm new stadium talks

BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Everton | Everton reassure fans over move

This is a tricky one...I'm not totally against a ground move but I think it has to be shown why it'll be better and more profitable than what we've got now. Why will it generate extra cash? How long will it take to pay for itself? How long will the club be in debt for?

Every true Evertonian loves Goodison...for all it's faults it's a great old ground, a proper old footy stadium. On it's day the atmosphere is immense, thinking back to the Blackburn game last season you have to say that these new ground just don't have the same feeling. People need to realise that it's a big sacrifice to leave our home, especially when a move will take us out of the city. Do we really want some shiny polished concrete generic "Reebokside Stadium of Pride". The aborted Kings Dock project would have been something special and was, basically, laid on a plate for us but the club screwed it up. That would have been a great ground in the heart of our city, this new thing just doesn't entice.

There's a lot of convincing to be done methinks.

Sport personality

BBC Sports Personality of the Year?!?!?!?!

Who on earth voted for that?!?!?!?! St Helens and Zara Phillips topping a poll ahead of the Ryder Cup team and Darren Clarke.

I ask you! Clarke & Co had the entire nation captivated. St Helens did brilliantly but it's a minority sport. Phillips & her equestrian buddies barely register. How could she win it ahead of Beth Tweddle? She was working Tescos in between training sessions to make end meet, she's the first British world champion in her field. I mean hats off to Zara for her achievments but there is no way she's had to make the same sacrifices as her.

Phone vote, block vote nonsense!

icLiverpool - Sheikh is not a Roman ruler

Bugger me...The Echo is actually worse than the fanzines you can buy outside Anfield. Do they really try and pass this off as journalism.

Given that they have a case involving child slavery currently hanging over them.

Child Camel Jockey

I'm not saying this is a shocking scandal and the rednoses new owners are pure evil or anything but these links were turned up in five minutes and yet the Echo are putting out shamefully one-eyed 'articles' (Advertising Features) basically slagging off Roman Abramovich and beatifying "Sheikh Mo". I wouldn't wipe my backside with The Liverpool Echo.

BBC SPORT | Football | Europe | Porto 0-0 Arsenal

BBC SPORT | Football | Europe | Porto 0-0 Arsenal

90 mins: Now Arsenal aren't even pretending to compete. Blow the whistle ref.

89 mins: Neither team has had a shot for what seems like weeks, and news filters through from Germany that Hamburg have gone 3-2 up.

88 mins: Merciful god, please let this turgid display end.

87 mins: Guess what? More largely unchallenged passing around by Arsenal. In a minute they'll give it back to Porto to do the same....repeat to fade.

86 mins: This is reminiscent of that game in the '82 World Cup when Germany and Austria colluded to keep out the Algerians. Not that I'm suggesting any funny business.

Good job Arsenal don't indulge is anti-football eh?

Steve Claridge set to play 1,000th game

BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Bournemouth | Claridge set to play 1,000th game

Congrats to Mr Claridge...1000 games is a pretty big milestone.

Also it seems the Flintoff and the senior players all went head-to-head to Fletcher over his planned inclusion of Panesar. It's difficult to tell because maybe they thought he just wasn't ready but given the nick the other bowlers are in you can't really defend leaving out a player who you know will be dangerous.

Top stuff

It’s a bit embarrassing really, we had visitors up from down south as they were going to the Tranmere v Peterborough game. We were sitting and having a few beers on Friday night expressing regret that the Everton/West Ham game would stop us from going over to the Wirral with them, an incredulous look was soon followed by a confused “But you are playing on Sunday aren’t you?”. A quick check of the teletext revealed the fact that we didn’t even know when our team was playing. Subsequently Saturday afternoon found us popping over to Prenton Park to see the Posh take on one of the form teams in the division above them.

Our Posh friends usually have a pretty cynical black humour about their team but now they are bouncing along because they have a new chairman…Darragh McAnthony an Irish property magnet has taken has taken over and is making all the right noises. He’s not trying to bullsh!t them about being a lifelong Posh fan, he just seems to be loving owning a footy club. On Saturday he paid for 30 coaches to take the fans up to the Wirral making for a pretty packed away end..

Tranmere were pretty sparsely supported and were easily shouted down by the happy Posh fans around us. The plastic scousers took the lead after about half an hour but Peterborough equalised on the stroke of half time and then bossed the second half until they took the lead with twenty minutes to go. Aaron McLean and Danny Crow were particularly impressive. It was a good game and Peterborough survived late pressure to go through…they’ll now want Everton in the next round to avenge their League Cup defeat.

A quick curry to celebrate then a couple more beers watching MotD.

The cricket in Adelaide is going much better then it did a week ago…nice to see the team standing up to be counted. Collingwood, Pietersen and Hoggard putting in great performances but the ultra flat wicket means that a draw is most likely result now.

Sunday's games saw a patched up Everton take on West Ham...a game played in a raging gale that neither team ever controlled. Like in the Bolton game I'd say Everton deserved to win and win we did. 2-0 with Osman and Vaughan both scoring. Brillaint stuff. Especially liked Tim Howard's celebrations after the goals and the final whistle. Everyone seemed pretty chuffed for Vaughan after what he's been through.
